With three massive hit singles in the bag already, Albanian/British based singer and songwriter Dua Lipa is already lined up to be the next songwriting pop princess. We had a quick Q&A with the singer, to find a bit more about her.
Dear Dua, surprise us with three facts, we may not know about you yet?
I like blue sour sweets, I hate burritos, and I carry hot sauce in my bag, SWAG.
Ha! Nice one Miss Lipa. We bow you to you. How did you get involved in music?
I was singing from a very young age, I started putting covers on YouTube.
Speaking of which, you’re already proven to twist a classic and give it your own spin. How AMAZING was that Jamie XX’s Good Times cover you did!
Ahhh thank you so much! I love doing covers, it’s definitely something I’ll keep doing when I have time.
Do you recall a certain moment, where you thought this is it… I’m going into music and that’s what I’m gonna do?
Yeah at the age of 15 when I decided to move away from home, it was a moment when all I saw myself doing was music and I wasn’t planning on looking back.
You’re only 20, you’re originally from Albania, but you’ve been living in London on your own since you were 16. How did that come about?
I always wanted to come to London, it just happened sooner rather than later and I was lucky enough to parents who would allow me to do that.
We’re three singles in your music journey so far; Be The One, Last Dance and Hotter Than Hell. All amazing tracks. The Music industry and blogs, including us are totally raving and embracing you. Do you feel there’s a huge pressure mounting up for your debut album? And how do you deal with that?
I’ve been working on this for such a long time and the support I’ve been getting is so surreal, it’s the best kind of support I could ask for, and at times it’s scary but it’s pushing me to do better and work harder.
Are you currently still recording, or have you wrapped up?
I’m always recording, I will be even when my album’s out in the autumn. It’s the best way for me to write about how I feel.
Speaking of feeling. Which three songs are you currently really feeling and therefore playing on repeat?
One Dance by Drake, Pray You Catch Me – Beyonce, 30 Hours – Kanye West
Great choice. And finally. Do you have any aspirations you hope to achieve in your career ?
I’d like to sell out an arena tour – that’s the dream.
