Friday’s Newbie: Marcus Collins debuts ‘Seven Nation Army’

X Factor lovers will be pleased to know that the Liverpudian runner up of last year X Factor edition, Marcus Collins  first track has been played on the radio today.

‘Seven Nation Army’ is the leading track of his debut album and best known as the original by the White Stripes. Marcus promised us the version would sound nothing like the White Stripes version and he’s right. The whole atmosphere of the song is completely different, making it sound almost Carribean.

Marcus’ without a great singer, and we loved his vocal performances during the liveshows but we can’t help but feeling he’s holding back on his version of ‘Seven Nation Army’.

Not a completely bad attempt, but sometimes it’s better to leave classic songs for what they are. Marcus’ ‘Seven Nation Army’ will be officially released March 4th, followed by his first album on 12th March.

What are your thoughts on Marcus debut single?

ESC 2012 – Those Who Didn’t Make It Ivi’s You Don’t Belong Here

It’s been a very exciting evening in yesterday’s Eurovision land. Not only was Baku officially recognized as the host city for this years contest.  A venue was officially confirmed and there was the Cypriotic national final. Having selected Ivi Adamou internally, the Cypriotic audience and jury decided amongs three songs being ‘Call the Police’, ‘La La Love’ and ‘You Don’t Belong Here’.

Both the jury and audience were unanimous and voted ‘La La Love’ as the big winner. But as you know the drill, we won’t listen to that one yet but we’ll have a look at one of the other two songs being the rocky ballad ‘You Don’t Belong Here’.  The song sounds like it would be a nice little filler for one of Kelly Clarkson’s album. Bit rocky, suits her vocals well, catchy in the chorus. I could see a windmachine in the arena already as well. Shame. Perhaps a bit too serious for a Eurovision stage, but we still like it and therefore our ‘those who didn’t make it’ of the day.

In March we’ll have a look at Ivi’s actual Entry for Cyprus. So don’t miss that one! In the mean time have your say, about ‘You Don’t Belong Here’. Get involved!!

One to watch: Marlon Roudette – New Age

This week another great jem is available on Itunes which I really have to share with all of you peeps. Although this is a new track for the UK market, the song has actually already been out in main Europe for quite some time. The track ‘New Age’  by Marlon Roudette, part of the former Mattafix band.

It’s taken him quite some time to come up with solo material but this is the purest it can get. ‘New Age’ is a piano-led love song that coudl easily be one of Bruno Mars tracks, but gets a sudden chorus twist which reminds us of Marlon’s previous Mattafix experience. All I can say is this is a great tune, and if the radio channels pick it up it could become a nice hit for the lad.

‘New Age’ by Marlon Roudette will be available for download via Itunes this week.

One to Watch: Cover Drive – Twilight

Today we’re presenting you the next best thing coming from Barbados ladies and gentlemen and the current number 1 of the midweek charts; Cover Drive.

This 4 piece, who has the backing of Tinie Tempah, started their climb towards fame last year with their song ‘Lick Ya Down’. Since they have listened very well to Ed Sheeran’s advice and must have thought if he can write a song about LEGO, then we can do the same about Twilight and this is the result.

There’s something very sexy about this song, kinda similar to some of Rihanna’s work (‘Whats My Name’ jumping up into mind) I can imagine loads of kids in the clubs looking for a little bit of smoochin’ on this, for the video they kept it really nice and clean these four. Kudos!  Is it a worthy number 1 for this week? Yeah of course it is!

today’s Music in a nutshell.

Let’s kick off with another announcement of the BRITS. Olly Murs has been added onto the list performers for the annual BRIT’S held in the O2 arena on the 21st February. Other performers include Ed Sheeran, Adele, Coldplay and Rihanna. Besides performing Olly is also nominated for ‘Best song’ with ‘Heart Skips A Beat’. Battling it out against him in this category is boyband One Direction. They are warming up to win the award by releasing a campaign video asking everybody to vote. You can watch the video here. It’s nothing serious, but they’re young lads so it’s funny.

And from the BRITS let’s go to the Superbowl, where all eyes will be on Madonna’s comeback performance. It has now been confirmed that Madonna will be on stage with LMFAO. Madonna is about to release her 12th album MDNA preceded by the new single ‘Gimme All Your Love’ giving the Superbowl its debut. Will.I.Am, who signed LMFAO to his record label confirmed. Apart from LMFAO, M.I.A, Nicki Minaj and Cee Lo Green are reported to take the stage with the queen of pop. More information to follow soon.

While we’re at it, last night in Baku, Azerbaijan the allocation draw was held which determined which 37 countries would take part in the two semi finals, and which finalists were allocated to vote in those semis. A draw for the running order will be held at a later stage. This year sees the 57th edition of the contest being held with 43 countries taking part. The logo and artwork were also presented for this years contest being ‘Feel the Fire’.

Further along, 2012 has finally started seeing the bigger stars releasing more details about upcoming work. Labrinth, Chris Brown and Mia are amongst the main acts to confirm their new singles while miss Rowland has debuted the video for her latest US release ‘Keep it Between Us’.  Biggest news of all however is the offical confirmation of Abba releasing a new song called ‘From a Twinkling Star to a Passing Angel’, which will feature on a reissue of their final album ‘The Visitors’. We can’t wait!
