Time to dust off those moves, Meryl and Pierce. Mamma Mia Here We Go Again, is coming next year!
Can you believe it’s been nine years since Pierce Brosnan, Meryl Streep, Julie Walters & Colin Firth took on the roles of our most favorite characters in the hit musical Mamma Mia? Well, today Variety informed us a second film is on its way, scheduled for release next year.
No change to a winning team;
Universal announced today, Littlestar’s Judy Craymer and Playtone’s Gary Goetzman, who produced the original, will reteam for the sequel. Craymer is also the creator and producer of the stage musical. Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus are aboard again to provide music and lyrics and serve as executive producers. Joining them are The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel scribe Ol Parker, who’s director.
According to Variety, Meryl Streep, Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth and Amanda Seyfried are all among the cast who are set to reprise their roles in Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again. The film will work around a similar concept where, a storyline is set around different Abba songs, who didn’t appear in the 2008 feature. However some favorites will be reprised, the studio has announced.
Mamma Mia! the musical continues to be a huge hit across the world. The film, when released in 2008, became one of the biggest UK movies of all times. The film made a $609.8 million profit on a $52 million budget. Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again is expected to be released in July 2018 – a decade after the original.
To date ABBA remains one of the biggest global band of all times, inspiring new generations with their music. They represented Sweden at the 1974 Eurovision Song Contest, which propelled them into stardom.
