One to watch: Pnau – Unite Us

We’ve known this Australian band quite some time now and we are quite shocked to realise they are actually not that well known globally as their side project Empire of the sun. With Elton John’s record label on their side now, Pnau, the group consisting of Nick Littlemore and Peter Mayes are ready to take on the world.

‘’Unite Us’’ is the  first global attempt  for this dance music duo, from Sydney. And they certainly do not dissapoint. ”Unite Us” has a very 80’s dance feeling to it, with a catchy chorus spreading a word of unity in the world. Add some synthesizers to it and this is heavenly.

It is unbelieveable how this band has stayed out of the spotlights for so long and is only known for one of its members sideprojects. As said, it’s dancey, it’s got the 8oies style written over it, it’s a proper anthem. We love it!

‘’Unite Us’’ by Pnau is available for download via iTunes from 19 February onwards.

This week’s music news in a nutshell

It’s been a busy week in music land. A few bullet points.

Main news over the week has been Madonna’s smashing Superbowl performance with M.I.A, Nicki Minaj, LMFAO & Cee Lo Green. The queen of pop’s interval sees the amount of viewers triple during half time and figures on Youtube continue to rise. You can watch the performance here. Little incident however with M.I.A as she puts up her middle finger, which forces NBC to apologize towards its viewers. Madonna has been said not to be amused and M.I.A is apparently to be asked to pay a fine. In the mean time, the pre-order option for MDNA has made the album number 1 in 50 countries, while the new single ‘Gimme All Your Lovin’’ is steadily going to the top of the charts. Earlier this week, rumours were said that Britney Spears would appear on one of the tracks but today the news was called a rumour by Madonna’s management.

Plenty of news in regards to releases as well. 16 years have passed but now Brandy and Monica have released a new duet together, called ‘It all belongs to me’. It doesn’t quite sound as ‘The Boy is Mine’ but it is infectious. Jedward are taking part in this year’s Irish selection for Eurovision, with ‘Waterline’ and are the big favourite to represent the emerald isle for the second time in a row. Marina & The Diamonds had good news for their fans as well. The Welsh singer’s releasing her new single ‘Primadonna’ early April. Olly Murs has also revealed the title of his new track being ‘Oh My Goodness’. Lots of video’s as well this week with Ladyhawke, Alexandra Burke’s video. Boyband JLS did so as well for their Sports Relief 2012 single ‘Proud’. We’ll soon review the song here.

New albums are also under the way for Missy Elliot, Timbaland and Plan B. Ed Sheeran’s new EP will also be released on Valentines’ Day. Katy Perry rereleases Teenage Dream as ‘Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection’ and also announces the first single of the repacked edition called ‘Part of Me’.

Lady GaGa revealed during the week the first dates of her ‘Born This Way Ball’ tour preceded with the tour poster, seeing the stage of the performer in the shape of a castle. The singer is expected to go on tour for 2 years. Speaking of touring and , here she is again, Madonna has also given out the dates and cities of her new world tour, Australia is one of the countries who sees the artist return after 13 years,  Not embarking on a world tour yet, but Mel B and both Geri Halliwell haven’t ruled out a possible Spice Girls reunion. All the members of the band are planned to meet up later this month to discuss new exciting plans. We will just have to wait and see.

The Grammy’s are approaching and stars confirmed to perform are Chris Brown, Tony Bennet, Carrie Underwood and the comeback of Adele, who’ll be performing for the first time since her throat operation. Now that is something really exciting!

Lots to talk about and with the Brits and Grammy’s on their way, things will only get busier! Hooray!

T.G.I. Friday with Darin

Guess what it is Friday!!! Time for the weekend… and this week we have decided to spoil you with a brand new cracking ‘Thank God It’s Friday’ tune coming all the way from…. Sweden!

Darin Zanyar, better known as Darin in his native Sweden, rose to fame after taking part in the countries own ‘Idol’ competition in 2004. The lad didn’t win but has since made quite a career.

After a few months of silence, he is back with a club-friendly pop song a la Jason Derulo/Chris Brown called ‘Nobody Knows’. Expect lots of bass and a catchy chorus. What a way to start the weekend! Enjoy!

Introducing Beatrice Eli – The Conqueror

We are very much in love with the ladies of Electro pop, and we couldn’t be more proud to present the following lovely lady to you all.

Beatrice Eli, who’s originally from Stockholm, Sweden but currently lives in London is the latest addition to our favourites. Not afraid to mix the darker side of synth-pop, subtle bass and gorgeous raspy vocals with melancholic soul & pop this girl has got the potential to be up there with the big Scandinavian stars as Minnie-Oh, Robyn, Oh Land and Lykke Li.

Want to find out what the combination sounds like? It is ‘The Conqueror’. It’s daring, a bit haunting, wonderful and exciting! Remember her name, because Beatrice is here to stay!

One to Watch: Darren Hayes – Bloodstained Heart

Darren Hayes, yes the man from Savage Garden, is back in the spotlights with his latest single ‘Bloodstained Heart’ from his latest album ‘Secret Codes and Battleships’.

While the man is hugely popular in his native Australia, the two previous cuts from the new album ‘Talk Talk Talk’ and ‘Black Out The Sun’ have been neglected for no reason by the UK radio stations (Shame on you all!!) and have made Hayes, one of the most underrated solo performers of 2011. We really hope this is all changes in 2012 with the release of  new single ‘Bloodstained Heart’.

Returning to his Savage Garden roots, with this heartfelt,  the emotional pop-song tells the story of a friendship, ‘The song means so much to me because I wrote it about a time in my life when someone close to me was going through a horrible time and I wished more than anything that I could step in and take the bullet for them.  We’ve all experienced that helpless feeling of standing by idly while someone you love is suffering – and wished that you could absorb the impact for them.  It’s about those situations in life where, maybe you feel you are losing the battle, but you’ll never lose your dignity’’ Darren explains.  (source: http://www.mix1065.com.au/videos/Darren-Hayes-Meaning-Behind-Bloodstained-Heart)

And it is truly heartfelt as the song is absolutely breathtaking. Darren’s lyrics are so genuine and his voice really underlines the emotions experienced. While the song starts of gently, it slowly builds up towards a big moment where the track gets an anthem twist. It sounds something which Coldplay could have featured on their album and considering their style is considered as current, we really hope that this is finally the moment where we see Darren being reinstated as an inspriring, heart-fealt solo artist globally.

‘Bloodstained Heart’, the single and EP, will be available for download on iTunes on 27 February 2012. The album ‘Secret Codes and Battleship’ is already out and can be purchased.
